With over 20 years in fitness, I’ve seen it all. Especially alllllll the hype around those so-called “transformation challenges” that promise life-changing results in just 6 to 8 weeks. These challenges are built on unrealistic expectations, unsustainable practices, and, frankly, a bullsh*t promise to get your money before you even begin to see any long-term benefits.
the problem with short-term challenges

The fitness industry loves to package transformation into a neat little 6‑ to 8‑week bundle. They sell you the idea that if you just push hard for a couple of months, you’ll achieve a dramatic change in your body. But here’s the truth:
unsustainable intensity
These challenges demand that you go all-in, pushing yourself to extremes that aren’t meant to last. Once the challenge is over, most people find it nearly impossible to maintain that level of intensity without burning out or getting injured.
all-or-nothing mindset
When you’re told that consistency means working out five days a week, every week, you set yourself up for failure. Life will happen; stress, illness, work, family… and suddenly, you feel like you’ve completely failed because you couldn’t “stick to the plan.” Sounds familiar, right?
quick-fix mentality
The promise of a rapid transformation ignores the reality that fitness is a lifelong journey. These challenges are designed not to help you build a sustainable practice but to rake in money by selling you hope.
why they don’t just work
Over the years, I’ve learned that true progress isn’t measured by a temporary, intense burst of activity, it’s built on realistic, consistent effort over time. Here’s why these short-term challenges fall flat:
They Don’t Account for Life’s Natural Flow
Our lives are unpredictable. There will be weeks when you can crush a workout schedule and others when life throws curveballs. Expecting yourself to hit that 6‑ or 8‑week mark with perfection is not only unrealistic, it’s setting yourself up for guilt and disappointment.

They Promote a Cycle of Guilt
When you inevitably have to pause because of an injury, stress, or even just a day off because you’re tired, the message becomes, “You’re not trying hard enough.” This all-or-nothing mindset makes it so much harder to get back on track once you’ve taken a break.
They’re About Short-Term Revenue
These challenges are designed to be short and intense because that’s when people are most likely to commit financially. Once the challenge is over, you’re left scrambling to figure out how to integrate those intense habits into your lifestyle.

what real consistency looks like
Real consistency isn’t about pushing yourself to the limit for a brief period, it’s about a long-term relationship with movement and your body. Here’s what that means:
- Embracing the Ebbs and Flows: Some weeks, you might get in five workouts, and other weeks, life might only allow for one. That’s okay. The goal is to see the big picture over months and years, not to be perfect every single week.
- Listening to Your Body: Instead of forcing through pain or stress just to meet a self-imposed quota, learn to adapt. Modify your workouts when necessary, and give yourself permission to rest without guilt.
- Celebrating Small Wins: Every workout counts, even if it’s just a short walk on a tough week. Consistency is about showing up, not about hitting a predetermined number of sessions per week.
Those 6‑ to 8‑week challenges might promise quick fixes, but they ignore the truth: Real, lasting change comes from consistency and self-compassion.
That’s why at Body Positive Fitness, you’ll never see short-term gimmicks.
We’re never running transformation challenges or competitions to see who can hit the gym the most. Instead, we focus on movement that fits into your life for the long haul.
Whether that’s five classes a month or a limitless pass, in-person or online, group sessions or personal training (or a mix of it all!), we help you find what actually works for you.
So if you’re ready to ditch the cycle of on-again, off-again fitness that leaves you exhausted, burnt out, and disappointed and, instead, start moving in a way that fits your life forever, we’re here for you.
